The show was about the home and work life of Melba Patterson, a divorced mother who was the director of New York's Manhattan Visitors Center. Melba was raising her nine-year-old daughter, Tracy with the help of her mother, Rose and her "sister," Susan Slater. Melba and Susan were raised by Rose, who was Susan's family's housekeeper. Jack and Gil worked for Melba at the Visitors Center.
The show premiered on January 28, 1986, the day of the Space Shuttle Challenger disaster. CBS immediately pulled the show from the schedule after that. The remaining episodes were aired during the summer.
